we all scream for ice cream

The Goods:

Remember those days when the familiar summertime chime could be heard out your window and all the neighborhood kids would drop everything and run to collect their coveted cones from the ice cream truck? Well, now you don’t have to drop anything: Maggie Moo’s Ice Cream and Treatery delivers right to you and you never have to worry that your favorite flavor will run out.

It’s a sweet treat to beat the heat, it’s Martha Stewart approved and it’s definitely the coolest idea to spice up your next event, or maybe cool it down…a Maggie Moo’s catered ice cream bar. Hope for Nicholas

A headache became an MRI. That MRI showed a tumor–racquetball-sized, on the right frontal lobe of Nicholas’s brain.

Nicholas Shannon is a happy, sweet, well-mannered little boy. His younger brother Gregory idolizes him, and a little sister Emery is due in August. The last thing this family expected was the diagnosis that Nicholas received. After invasive seven-hour brain surgery, Nicholas was diagnosed with the worst possible brain cancer a human can have: Glioblastoma Multiforme.

His tumor is extremely aggressive and does not respond well to medical interventions. Nicholas will now begin very intense chemotherapy and radiation treatments. His future will be determined by how his cancer responds to this therapy, but the odds are low for long-term survival.

Nicholas’s family is offering a great opportunity for you to show your support and help him live his life to the fullest.Nicholas

The HOPE FOR NICHOLAS BENEFIT CONCERT is being held in Dallas, GA, on July 24, and all proceeds from the concert will go towards the family’s unwavering fight for their child. The concert is family friendly and is a great chance to enjoy a night together while supporting a wonderful foundation.

Every day is a good day to give, but July 24 is an especially great day. A day that could help save the life of a little boy.

UPDATE from Hope for Nicholas, posted on 8/6/2010:

Hello,

I want to thank you again for publicizing the benefit concert we hosted for Nicholas. The Paulding County Sheriff estimated we had at least 1200 guests in attendance! It rained from 4:30 to 6, but they came anyway! In just 8 weeks, we raised $42,000.

Nicholas is home now and doing great. He has an MRI on the 16th and a Duke consult a few days later. We just paid his medical bills (and housing out in OKC) from the first 6 weeks of treatment — $8,000 out-of-pocket. I’m so thankful we raised enough money to cover those expenses.

I thought you would like to know the results of the campaign. Thank you again!

Janice

you’ve got foxtale

The Gig:

Reminiscent of slower times and smaller towns, FoxTale Book Shoppe is like something from a storybook… ironic, yes? Pull off Main Street in historic Woodstock and cross the threshold into this charming store and you’ll find that perhaps, life isn’t moving just as fast as it seems.

Although this definitely makes FoxTale unique, what sets them apart is not only the quiet, elegant decorum and homey ambiance, but their unwavering calendar of events! Book clubs for all ages meet monthly, as well as monthly open mic nights. Author book signings are always just around the corner, and children’s story time is held twice weekly. Meg Ryan would certainly approve and would no doubt rub this great little shop right in Tom Hanks’ face.

In the children’s room, Golden Book Classics, like The Little Red Hen go for $3.99, while Nancy Drew throwbacks are just $4.99. In the main section, there are a

ton of books for adults, ranging from cooking to Clinton to cottage living. No matter who you are, Foxtale Book Shoppe  is the kind of place where you can find yourself, find some good company…and find a great book.
