golf for the gals

The Gig:

Bring your equipment, your balls and your best stroke. And remember that no matter how much these terms remind you of men, this tournament is all about the girls…yes, those girls.

The Pink Ribbon Golf Classic is “dedicated to raising money and awareness to fight breast cancer and to help the American Cancer Society” says Ginger King, event co-chair.

This year’s Pink Ribbon Golf Classic is just around the corner, giving everyone a splendid opportunity to dust off those clubs, get in some practice rounds, and go buy a new sports bra to show some support (get it?) before the tournament on October 4, 2010, at the Marietta City Club.

The tournament this year is honoring four outstanding women who are actively raising awareness about breast cancer in their community. FOUR! (lame golf joke.) These ladies have all experienced cancer in one way or another and have stayed involved in their communities to share their understanding and knowledge on breast cancer.

Prior to the tournament, an exciting auction/preview party will be held, providing the opportunity to bid on some fabulous goodies. Sponsorship opportunities are available for the Pink Ribbon Classic, as well as opportunities to donate auction items, or honor a friend or loved one with a balloon dedication. Last year, over $70,000 was raised and contributed to research, patient services, advocacy efforts, and education for cancer patients and survivors. Be a part of that number this year by coming out to the Pink Ribbon Golf Classic and supporting in any way you can!

Play around for the 4th

The Gig:

Want to party like an animal for the 4th of July? You can!

Little Bears, along with Windsor wants you to come out to their 4th on the 3rd celebration on Thursday, July 3 at 7:30. Bring the kiddies for an economical night…just $10 a car will buy you hot dogs, drinks, a top notch fireworks show, and free admission to Little Bears indoor playground.

House of Brews will be offering Buy-one Get-one (hello BOGO!), on their iced brews and Aqua-tots will be handing out free, yes, free goodies! The early bear gets the goods in this case, so make sure you arrive early for first come first served and don’t forget your socks!

There are still good times to be had with Little Bears after the 3rd, too! A free music class for children 3-5 is being offered on July 6 from 10am-12pm, but more importantly July 6 is Mommies Morning Out from 10am-1pm.

You will also have the opportunity to pre-register for Music camp on July 6! So, if you think you’ve got the next Mozart, sign up for Music camp from July 13-16 and get a free tote bag! Hey, even if your child turns more into a one hit wonder than the Beethoven type, it’s worth it just for the free tote!

Last, but not least, July 9 is Parents Night Out – a whole night from 7pm-11pm for just the adults! Little Bears Indoor Playground is pulling out all the stops next week, so don’t miss out!

A quiet afternoon, sort of…

The Gig:

Ladies, I know this will catch you off guard: silence.

This gig isn’t actually silent: it’s better. The Strand is showing a collection of Charlie Chaplin silent film shorts and pairing them with live musical accompaniment.

A fun afternoon of live organ music and classic comedy in the Marietta Square…now that’s a summer day that gets remembered, retold and relived. Be sure to mark your calendar for July 11 at three o’clock, because you’ve got a date with good ol’ Charlie.

a nature fit-away day

The Gig:

There’s a fit and ready bikini bod waiting for you at home! The gym is so overrated and why would you want to head to the gym when Personal Trainer, Scarlet Knight, can teach you how to achieve that beach goddess body at your own home – using no special equipment!

Not only do you learn all about exercising at home, but also get to take a leisurely walk and enjoy a unique outdoor workout before taking a scenic drive to a mountain Cabin for a scrumptious, yet nutritious lunch! And forget those 30-minute meals with Rachel Ray: here you will learn how to make super healthy 20-minute meals using the “clean eating” diet.

End this relaxing day stretching your muscles and listening to the gurgling waters of the Talking Rock River, and more!

This Nature Fit-Away is a day you do not want to miss, so pencil it in for June 19th from 9-4:30; after all, that bikini babe is waiting and Your Chosen Path’s Fit-Away is the perfect way to find her.

you’ve got foxtale

The Gig:

Reminiscent of slower times and smaller towns, FoxTale Book Shoppe is like something from a storybook… ironic, yes? Pull off Main Street in historic Woodstock and cross the threshold into this charming store and you’ll find that perhaps, life isn’t moving just as fast as it seems.

Although this definitely makes FoxTale unique, what sets them apart is not only the quiet, elegant decorum and homey ambiance, but their unwavering calendar of events! Book clubs for all ages meet monthly, as well as monthly open mic nights. Author book signings are always just around the corner, and children’s story time is held twice weekly. Meg Ryan would certainly approve and would no doubt rub this great little shop right in Tom Hanks’ face.

In the children’s room, Golden Book Classics, like The Little Red Hen go for $3.99, while Nancy Drew throwbacks are just $4.99. In the main section, there are a

ton of books for adults, ranging from cooking to Clinton to cottage living. No matter who you are, Foxtale Book Shoppe  is the kind of place where you can find yourself, find some good company…and find a great book.

say hello to orlando!

The Gig:

So it rained all Memorial Day Weekend…what a waste of a built-in vacay! Thankfully, Omni Hotels has found a way to turn garbage into gold! The Omni Orlando Resort at ChampionsGate wants you to forget about those rainy days here in Georgia and focus on a getaway to sunny Orlando! Spend anywhere from two to five nights at this amazing resort with rates starting at $429/night. Underneath the rays of that intoxicating Floridian sun, you and the whole gang can experience some great ‘Orlando Unleashed’ adventure by going zip-lining: it provides for some really great sight seeing, some adventurous fulfillment and some envy inspiring stories for friends back home. lazyriverDon’t worry though, all the adventure won’t get in the way of that much needed pool time (in a poolside cabana, no less!), those few rounds of golf for the hubby, and not having to hear that pesky alarm clock until well beyond when the sun rises. So, next time the Georgia rain calls, refer it to the Florida rays and tell it you’ve gone on vacation.
