go {all} out in style for new year’s eve!

the goods:

Remember the days when you had really fabulous plans and outfits for New Year’s Eve? Parties with friends, hotel rooftop lounges, bashes at your favorite hangout (you know, when you had time to just hang out)?

And then, you had kids. Now, you’re lucky if you can stay awake past 10:00 p.m., but it’s better if you don’t anyway, because the kids will be up at 6:00 ready to ring in the New Year with Cheerios and Curious George.

We say, buck the mommy New Year routine for 2012! Call the grandparents (they go to bed early anyway), call friends, start at your pre-kid hangout of choice, move on to the hippest hotel rooftop lounge around (where you have a room booked for the night) and party like it’s 1999!

On that note, we know you might not have bought any out-on-the-town clothes since the aforementioned year, so we did the shopping for you and found some swagtastic styles and accessories to snag close to home–and in plenty of time for the New Year’s Eve night out.

bellissimo: a jewelry store you need to know

the goods:

When we say “goods” this time, we REALLY mean great! Have you been into Bellissimo Fine Jewelry in Marietta? You know, the place where you have to ring the bell for them to let you in to their showroom of wonder? It. Is. Magnificent. For your next girl’s day out, you need to stop in there and just bask in the glory of creative bling. Truly, it is jewelry heaven.

So, we recently asked Bellissimo to share the secret to their magnificent jewelry heaven in the middle of East Cobb, and their answer was: Michael John IMAGE jewelry creations. Allow us to introduce you, as well. Bellissimo__2010-2011_3

Michael John IMAGE is the artistic brainchild behind Bellissimo Fine Jewelry. This jewelry design company was founded over two decades ago by relatives Michael and John Hezar, who knew from the start that they wanted to bring art back to jewelry. They have more than succeeded.

Their designs combine eye-catching shapes, incredible details, and all the colors of nature into impeccable jewelry with extraordinary quality that, quite simply, takes your breath away. This is heirloom-quality, bar none.

These timeless designs have, of course, garnered a celebrity following and won scads of critical praise. The pieces have been called state-of-the-art” and “uniquely beautiful”by manufacturing and jewelry design publications, and Michael John IMAGE was named a Top 10 Designer in The 2010 Couture Show Design Competition.

So, if something sparkly is on your Christmas list (or birthday list or Valentine’s list or just-because list), Bellissimo Fine Jewelry is definitely the place to check out. But, please, don’t take our word for it. Ring the bell and wait to be escorted into the bliss that is Bellissimo.

pump it up with pumpkin!

Fall is officially here! And what’s a fall season without the sweet aroma of pumpkin spice and a delectable slice of pumpkin pie at your family gathering? Pumpkins rule the season! And we aren’t the only ones who like pumpkins…

Meet Great Harvest Bread Company in West Cobb: a fun, socially conscious bakery and cafe that serves up homemade breads, sandwiches and an array of healthful goodies.

Cindy & Bob Mossey

Cindy & Bob Mossey

Bob and Cindy Mossey, the owners of Great Harvest Bread Company in West Cobb, are thrilled to be a part of something both healthy and enjoyable. These “bread heads” have been with Great Harvest for two years now and have made an impact on the community through charitable giving…as well as turned the tables on the idea that a quick meal has to be unhealthy.

good ol’ fashioned methods

What makes Great Harvest…well, great…is the way they create their goodies. High protein Montana spring-wheat flour is stone ground every morning. The bakers onsite then use traditional methods of bread making, utilizing ‘low tech,’ old-fashioned, from-scratch baking. All bread is hand-kneaded with zero fats, oils or preservatives (yummy and nutritious!).

the goods

Here’s a small sampling of the tasty treats served up at Great Harvest Bakery:

  • Fresh coffee and breakfast goodies
  • Lunch sandwiches (served from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.)
  • Handcrafted whole grain breads and baked goods made with pure and simple ingredients
  • Baskets and shipping boxes for snail mail treats for friends and family

october ‘pumpkin’ prizes

To celebrate the fall season, Great Harvest has an array of pumpkin selections from drinks to bread for you to choose from:

Pumpkin Nut Brownies: served Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday

Great Harvest has many other “fall-esque” goodies, including apple- and cinnamon-flavored bread, Halloween sugar cookies and BOO BERRY bread with a blend of blueberry and chocolate (served on Wednesdays through Halloween).

Mistletoe Market Preview Night…in pics!

The Junior League of Cobb-Marietta hosts the Mistletoe Market each year–a festive shopapalooza that serves as many a Cobb woman’s entree into the holidays. This year’s Market was held on October 13-15 at the Cobb Civic Center and showcased a vendor variety including everything from margarita mixes to Mary Jane’s. It was, as always, the perfect chance to make that list, check it twice…and then check it off!

The Wednesday night before the official commencement, the JLCM always throws a Preview Night bash. It’s a fun, festive, fashionable fete, complete with live music, food (by the likes of Miss Mamie’s Cupcakes and Henry’s Louisiana Grill), and a Belk-sponsored fashion show.

Here’s a peek into this year’s Preview Night:
