She is open for submissions for any community events (open houses, special promotions/sales, holidays, fairs/festivals, seminars, etc.), so please feel free to e-mail calendar@blackdressredwagon.com at any time with event information (date, time, 1-3 sentence description and purpose, cost, contact information). She just requests a two-week lead time to post events.

*closed* culinary dreams come true

The Gig:

French cuisine, Florida, and the historic St. Fancis Inn – What’s not to love?! Chef Jean-Stephane Poinard is the owner and head chef of Bistro de Leon in historic St. Augustine, Florida, and he wants to fulfill your dream of learning culinary secrets and techniques with his very own Culinary Dream Contest.

His dream was to own a restaurant in America where he could offer a great lifestyle to his family. St. Augustine’s European atmosphere was a perfect match to ‘la cuisine de meres’ (French home cuisine). This dream came true in summer 2008, and now he’s taken to the streets (figuratively, that is!) to help your dreams take shape, too!

Enter to win a day in the kitchen with Chef Jean-Stephane Poinard, making a dish of your choosing while he teaches you the how-tos of culinary artistry and lets you in on all his sizzling, behind-the-scenes secrets. (Personally, we think that the ninja knife skills chefs use are insanely cool and not a bad party trick…and what’s life all about if it’s not about learning cool party tricks from amazing, award winning chefs!) Spend a night in the fabulous St. Francis Inn and wake to a day of culinary dreams come true….St. Francis Inn

Check out below to see how to enter, and look at all those nifty prizes you’ll receive when you win!

Send entry via email only to:  info@leighcortpublicity.com

MOPS (the good kind)

The Gig:

We *heart* MOPS! And no, I’m not talking about the nasty, dried out spongy thing collecting cobwebs in the corner of my laundry room. I’m talking about Mothers of Preschoolers–an international moms’ support group for women with preschoolers. There’s an awesome MOPS group that meets in the Powder Springs area. Here’s the skinny:

When does the group meet? The first and third Thursday of each month during the school year. (First meeting of 2010-2011 is August 26.)

Where does it meet? McEachern Memorial in the Oaks Hall building, from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. AND child care is provided. MOPS pic

Who’s welcome? Any mom with children ages birth through kindergarten is welcome to attend!

Surgery Simplified

Women are better than men. Don’t take it from me; take it from Dr. Malcolm Barfield. Word for word: “Women are better patients than men.” And it’s a good thing that he feels this way, considering he’s a gynecological surgeon and co-founder of The Georgia Advanced Surgery Center for Women, along with Dr. Hugo Ribot.

This brand new, state of the art facility in Cartersville provides minimally invasive gynecological procedures in an outpatient setting. The center concentrates on making the treatment for benign gynecological needs as painless as possible. Equipped with a mostly female staff, the latest H-D laparoscopic equipment, and a unique outlook on the services they provide, The Georgia Advanced Surgery Center is looking out for the patient 100 percent of the time.

Dr. Malcolm BarfieldProviding minimally invasive surgeries is a huge passion for Dr. Barfield (pictured right). “Focusing on the patient’s safety and comfort is so important,” affirms Dr. Barfield, who notes that patients who undergo hysterectomies at the center go home two to three hours after the procedure. This means no unsightly incisions and–the best news–a quicker, less painful recovery. “Our patients usually only need pain medication for two or three days following hysterectomies,” he says.

The goal of providing procedures like this–as well as a vision for lowering the risk of infection associated with traditional hospitals and helping patients navigate the financial insurance maze–is what inspired Dr. Barfield and Dr. Ribot to open the center. Surgical solutions provided at the center cover everything from infertility, endometriosis and ovarian cysts to bladder control problems and heavy periods.

“Men have been number one in medicine for so long, and it’s time to take a closer look at improving medical techniques and screening geared towards women,” says Dr. Barfield. A man who thinks that women need more attention…now that’s refreshing!

GASC_logo2The Georgia Advanced Surgery Center for Women was recently named a “Center of Excellence” by the American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists. Visit http://www.ga-advancedsurgerycenter.com for more information, or call 678-605-9399. The center is conveniently located at 958-A Joe Frank Harris Parkway, Suite 107, in Cartersville, Georgia, 30120.
