Concierge medicine is on the rise. Is it a good fit for you?

After running a thriving family medical practice in Acworth since 2009, husband-and-wife physician team Drs. Heath and Ashley Trowell have reinvented their practice – and redefined modern healthcare. Their new practice, Governors MedSpa and Concierge Medicine offers dual services: customized concierge medicine and elite cutting-edge aesthetic procedures. The result? A return to personalized patient centric care, from the inside out.
Much to my delight, I was recently invited to pop into their office for a visit. Amidst ethereal cool blues, soft lighting and soothing décor, Dr. Heath, Dr. Ashley and I discussed the need for concierge medicine, emerging trends in aesthetic procedures, and the importance of fostering a sincere relationship between doctor and patient.
HEALTHCARE, AT YOUR SERVICE
Having seen up to 30 patients a day in previous settings, Dr. Heath and Dr. Ashley explain that their new practice reintroduces the aspect of time back into doctor-patient interactions. “In order to deliver the most rewarding care, doctors must take the time to hear their patients’ full stories,” says Dr. Heath. “Only then can we help patients understand their medical conditions and empower them to take an active role in their health.” What the Trowells have found, however, is that time was lacking from their former traditional medical model.
Their answer is concierge medicine, in which patients contract directly with Dr. Heath and Dr. Ashley, without third-party payers like insurance companies. Think of it as medicine “unplugged” from the system: healthcare for patients who essentially say, “We are opting for a focus on our health, sans the distractions and control of insurance and bureaucracy – and we’re willing to pay for it directly.” Many patients choose to keep some level of insurance for emergency care, and many also utilize tax-advantaged health savings accounts for concierge payments.
To keep the financial structure accessible, the Trowells’ practice offers levels of “membership,” which determine rates and services. They also offer monthly installments and annual membership fees that lend flexibility and freedom, so individuals and families can select their level of care, along with à la carte services.
The rewards of concierge care are extensive. Exclusive members are awarded 24/7 mobile access, same-day appointments, remote appointments via Skype, comprehensive physical examinations, lab work and screenings,as well as, highly individualized coaching and consulting for total wellness and prevention.
“By eliminating insurance, we gain more one-on-one time with our patients,” affirms Dr.Heath. “We understand how work, children and travel can make it difficult to access healthcare providers. With concierge medicine, we’re literally ‘at your service,’ achieving our goal of being a close-knit family practice where we can really care for our patients.”
