That’s according to a recent survey by the American Academy of Pediatrics and the YMCA. This summer, make it a point to ditch the screens and vouch to give your children an enriching summer full of new experiences. Our solution? Summer day camps! With opportunities like tap dancing, droid flying and Lego building, these five high-quality camp programs in Cobb County give kids the adventure they crave, sans the smart phone.
1. North Cobb Christian School Summer Camp
The NCCS summer camp lineup is impressive. With camp themes including Star Wars, Lego, Minecraft, the Secret Writing Society, princesses, American Girl dolls, and keyboarding, who wouldn’t have a totally stellar time? There’s also the action-packed Camp Eagle day camp, athletic camps ranging from cheer to basketball, plus ACT prep and Driver’s Ed.
Camper ages | Camps are available for ages 3 years to rising seniors and are open to the community.
The summer standout | NCCS camps excel at variety, spanning the arts, athletics and academics. “They’re a great way for students to grow their cognitive and social skills while learning more about what it means to have a relationship with Jesus Christ,” says Megan Strange, Upper School Principal at NCCS. “We also have some camps this year that are led by kids who grew up in our camp program – continuing the fun for a whole new generation!”
Dates | May 30 – August 4. Camp times span between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. daily, with optional early care starting at 7:30 a.m. and after care until 6 p.m.

2. Mount Paran Christian School Summer Programs
An amazing lineup is the highlight of Mount Paran Christian School’s summer season. With fishing camps, acting and film camps, STEM programs, crafting and sewing courses, state champion cheer and football camps, mountain excursions and more, MPCS offers a wide variety of academic, art, athletic, faith and fun programs each week, all in a Christ-centered environment.
Camper ages | Camps are available for ages pre-K3 through rising seniors and are open to the community.
The summer standout | MPCS has created a camp program for every child’s interests. “Students have a great experience whether they are playing softball, fishing, tap dancing or flying drones around campus,” says Greg Phillips, MPCS Summer Camps Director. “This year, the Atlanta Braves will even be hosting an official BRAVES baseball camp at MPCS!”
Dates | June 5 – July 28. Camp times are half-day (9 a.m.-12 p.m. or 1 p.m.-4 p.m.) and all day (9 a.m.-4 p.m.). Early care starts at 7:30 a.m.; after care is until 6 p.m.

3. The Georgia Ballet Summer Dance Camp
Young dancers rejoice! The School of The Georgia Ballet Summer Program offers dancers the chance to learn something new while making new friends. Summer opportunities include camps and classes for ballet, jazz, modern and hip-hop for all skill levels.
Camper ages | Classes & camps are available for ages 3 to 18.
The summer standout | During the summer, an extra dose of fun is added into The Georgia Ballet’s high-energy camps and classes, which give students an opportunity to learn ballet through their prestigious programs.
Students will focus on conditioning the body and an in-depth study of ballet technique, while also exploring different styles of dance like jazz, modern, contemporary and hip-hop through their Dance Camps and Mini-Intensive.
“Summer is a great opportunity to learn something new or keep up with your school-year training. Our camps are always a hit with the students,” says Ashleyanne Hensley, School Director. “They love our teachers and making new friends.”

4. Summer Adventure Club at Primrose School at Brookstone
If you’re looking for a full-day camp program your kids will LOVE, Primrose Summer Adventure Club is it! With exciting theme weeks like movie making, robotics, time travel and the science of cooking, these camps combine learning, exploration and all-out fun.
Camper ages | Camps are available for ages 5 to 10; campers can attend just one week or pick the weekly themes they enjoy best.
The summer standout | It certainly will be an adventurous summer at Primrose School at Brookstone with amazing field trips to places like Sky Zone, Zoo Atlanta, Tellus Museum, The Indian Mounds, Medieval Times and more! What’s even cooler? The summer curriculum builds different weekly themes into an authentic learning environment that’s so enriching, kids won’t even know they’re learning.
“We not only provide the most exciting field trips and curriculum, we give children a safe and loving environment where fun and learning go hand-in-hand,” says Kaitlyn O’Brien, Director of Primrose School at Brookstone. “All of our teachers are professionally trained on field trips and have the educational background every parent looks for.”

5. Georgia Dance Conservatory Summer Camps
Celebrating the joy of dance, Georgia Dance Conservatory offers camps that give dancers of all skill levels an ability to “tell a story on the stage” while improving their technique. Plus, fun snacks and creative movement abound!
Camper ages | Fairytale Camp, ages 3 to 6. Ballet Bootcamp, ages 7 to 11. Tumbling Camp, Hip-Hop Camp, and Tap Camp, ages 6 to 12.
The summer standout | During Fairytale Camp, students will bring beloved stories to life through dance, including Cinderella, Coppelia, Peter & the Wolf and Sleeping Beauty. Ballet Bootcamp, Tap Camp and Hip-Hop Camp will teach top technique for these dance styles, all imparted with a big dose of interactive summer fun. And Tumbling Camp will encourage kids to try something new!
“Each summer workshop is a week-long session that includes intensive-style classes focused on technique, strength and flexibility, plus supplemental dance education in dance history, terminology, anatomy, injury prevention and nutrition. Campers also enjoy crafts, games and choreography,” says Lauren Banks, School Director for The Georgia Dance Conservatory. “Summer is a wonderful time for dancers to grow to new levels and enjoy all aspects of dance. Parents are invited to attend the last 20 minutes of the Friday session for an in-class performance.”
