It’s never been more fun to be a girl! Dramatic hues, unexpected statement pieces and glittery eyes (Yes! Glitter!) combine to bring you the fiercest summer looks in years.
Welcome Back, Tiny Bohemian Braids
Do you remember 1997 and those sweet little braids you would wear on the side of your hair with beads on the bottom? A new twist on the look was all over the runways this year and you’re sure to start seeing these tiny micro-braids sprout up everywhere this summer.
To get the look: Braid tiny strands of hair all over the hair and secure with a clear rubber band. Don’t forget to ditch the beads—that look is best left in the 90s where it belongs.
Hello, Pretty Lips
Fresh faces are the new thing. (Thank you, Alicia Keys!) But there’s one thing you need to pair with your moisturizer—a big, bold lip! Though unexpected next to a bare face, a standout lip is the new summer trend. Think coral, red, orange, tangerine and even, turquoise.
To get the look: Use a moisturizer, nude eye shadow and clear mascara. Then concentrate all your attention on a standout lip.
The New Glitter Trend
Glitter eyes are back with a twist. Think about glitter tears down the sides of your eyes and metallic glitter leaf embellishments lining your upper lids.
To get the look: Try lining your bottom lid with a wide line of intense glitter or trace your eyebrows with a glitter pen. To really make a statement, order a metallic eye embellishment for your upper eyelid.
Pin straight hair is all the rage this season. The other summer trend? Take that pin straight hair and criss-cross in the back to form tight lines for a half-up do.
To get the look: Use a smoothing hairspray to flatten out any fly-a-ways. Part hair in the middle and iron straight.
Go Gothic In The Summer
Thanks to Rhianna, a little goth goes a long way this year. Think black lips and nails and statement hair pieces with black feathers.
To get the look: Exfoliate the lips to remove dead skin cells. Then, choose a matte lipstick instead of a gloss. Finish with a finishing gloss or powder over the lips so the look stays in place.
