Set against the backdrop of the Deep South just before the Civil Rights Movement in 1948, Alfred Uhry’s “Driving Miss Daisy” is a heartwarming tale of love and friendship brought to life before your very eyes at the Vineyard Café and Dinner Theatre located on the Historic Marietta Square.
Miss Daisy, an independent and fierce soul, doesn’t like the idea of being chauffeured around by a black man named Hoke hired by her affluent son, Boolie. But over the span of 25 years, the two grow close despite their many differences. What results is a love that transcends the time in which they were born and reminds us of the beauty of human connection.
To make the experience that much more memorable, you’ll dine on the finest Southern fare imaginable before your show begins. Your four-course buffet dinner will start with a house salad smothered in the delicious House Champagne Vinaigrette with a side of scrumptious cornbread. Next, comes your choice of an entrée of either Southern Style Oven-Fried Chicken (gluten free) or a Collard-Green Frittata baked to perfection. Both come with your choice of black-eyed peas and their Mac and Five Cheese Delight. The course ends with a delectable Bourbon Pecan Torte that’s amazing enough to transport you back to 1948. Pair your meal with some Peach Iced Tea or Lemonade or choose from their selection of beer, wine and champagne.
The dinner and show experience is perfect for a date night, a night out with friends or just a night to rekindle your love of the human spirit. If you’ve never experienced dinner theatre, you have to see this show, it’s the real deal.
