We are asked often what local businesses we would recommend for a project, a website, a roof, a facelift … you name it, we get asked. After working with hundreds of amazing area businesses over the past eight years, we usually have a ready reply. So, in each issue, we share five businesses that we can personally vouch for.
To us, these are the best of the best.
BD | RW recommends: The Flourish Network for Women
Services | Flourish offers a platform for women in business to network in an innovative way, focusing on the whole woman. There are 16 chapters (and growing) throughout Metro Atlanta that meet monthly. No membership is required; attendance is $15 per monthly meet-up. Workshops, network-wide conferences and evening business mixers are also held regularly, as well as a Flourish at Sea cruise happening in January 2017!
Standout lowdown | Frustrated with a lack of quality, effective, non-competitive women’s networking groups, Linda Barbour launched Flourish in 2015 with the vision of focusing on relationships first. Her idea has exploded into 16 chapters. “We focus on the whole woman, building friendships, supporting and loving on each other. It’s amazing how that focus impacts the bottom line. Strong relationships build strong businesses,” she says. If you’re looking for a way to take your business (and yourself) to the next level, Flourish is it.
BD | RW recommends: Judi Wilcher and Transitions Property Management & Real Estate
Services | Transitions offers expertise on both sides of the coin: buying/selling and leasing/property management. They provide real estate services, as well as leaser procurement and management of investment properties.
Standout lowdown | After years as an award-winning Realtor for a large agency, Judi Wilcher launched Transitions to answer a need for quality property management and leasing expertise in Metro Atlanta. Her goal was to launch a boutique operation that combines current technology with old-fashioned service, taking the stress and guesswork out of real estate and investment properties.
BD | RW’s editor, Elizabeth Cossick, personally vouches for Judi and her team, who sold Elizabeth’s home in four weeks and her brother’s home in two weeks. “Because the Transitions team knows both property management and real estate, they offer unmatched expertise in property values and all aspects of the buying, selling or leasing process,” says Elizabeth. “This depth of knowledge sets them apart. Plus, they’re just good, honest people.”
BD | RW recommends: Dyer & Posta Salon
Services | This urban studio-style salon in the heart of Cobb County attracts faithful clients from across the metro area and beyond. Expect precision cuts and color techniques – from flawlessly natural to dramatic and edgy – as well as blowouts, hair extensions and updos.
Standout lowdown | At once extraordinarily chic and tastefully understated, Dyer & Posta is a New York-caliber salon that happens to be in Kennesaw, Georgia. Their reputation has earned them national coverage in Elle, Allure, Fitness and InStyle.
Owners Stephen Posta and Amanda Dyer emphasize education for their rock-star roster of stylists, who are trained internationally. How does this training translate for clients? If you pin it, they can do it. They excel at all those amazing hairstyles on Pinterest: Balayage, hand painting, “bronde,” “granny gray,” techni-color highlights, sleek bobs, lived-in waves, intricate braids and much, much more.

BD | RW recommends: Mosquito Monster
Services | Mosquito Monster offers custom mosquito services that are safe for kids, pets and the environment.
Standout lowdown | What if you could keep mosquitoes away from your yard? Would you likely go outside more as a family? That’s the mission behind Mosquito Monster, a family-run, locally owned company that improves peoples’ quality of life by reclaiming the outdoors.
Mosquito Monster uses a safe, botanical product that breaks the mosquito’s reproductive cycle – an innovative approach to mosquito control. “Most products only target adult insects, but our formula actually prevents eggs and larvae from maturing into adults,” explains COO Jerry Accettura. Treatment options include best-in-class MistAway automatic misting systems, certified organic barrier spray treatments, one-time barrier spray treatments before special events, and season-long barrier spray treatments. “If we can help families use their yards again and build those relationships, we’ve achieved our mission,” Jerry asserts.
BD | RW recommends: OrthoZone, Dr. Doug Singleton and Dr. Candace Cronan
Services | Dr. Singleton and Dr. Cronan of OrthoZone specialize in full-scale orthodontic care for kids and teens.
Standout lowdown | Customer service is paramount at OrthoZone, which offers “orthodontics with a Ritz Carlton feel.” With five state-of-the-art locations in Cobb and Paulding, Drs. Cronan and Singleton personally see each patient. “We spend lots of time with our patients, getting to know them and educating them and their parents on their orthodontic care,” says Dr. Cronan.
And because Dr. Cronan and Dr. Singleton are both parents themselves, they have a naturally gentle touch. “We see our patients from their mom’s and dad’s perspectives, treating them like we would our own children,” Dr. Cronan notes.
This personal approach echoes the refreshing fact that OrthoZone is a local, family-owned business. “We are not corporately owned,” affirms Dr. Cronan. “We are raising our own families right alongside our patients’ families – a fact we love.”
