Make & Take @ Pottery Lane in Cartersville

Dog days of summer getting your kids down? Add a little creativity to a lazy summer day by heading to Pottery Lane in Cartersville.

What is it? Locally owned and operated, this quaint little pottery shop provides pre-molded pieces ready for you to pick and paint. Tables and chairs are set up to accomodate an entire playgroup. Brushes, stamps and tools stand at the ready,  and paint is available in colors galore.

What can you paint? The pottery and ceramic selection includes everything from frogs, frames and napkin rings to beautiful platters and mugs. We picked a square tile coaster and decorated it with my 3-year-old’s hand print for my husband’s 40th birthday. It’s the perfect reminder of how small she was when he hit the bigtime.

How long does it take? In the same trip as the coaster, my preschooler also painted her own “special day” plate, and we were done in about an hour with only a $20 dent in the wallet. Not too shabby. Your pieces are left at the shop, put in the kiln, and ready for pickup in about a week.
